How strange is it when you get a blizzard in December? This winter is looking to be one of my favorites - already! I will be posting some pictures of this historic snowfall here from Bel Air, Maryland.

General Category / General Discussion / Re: Record high?

The all time record high that my weather station shows accounts for all the data since around late 2003 when I started using the Weather Display software. I have had a weather station going non-stop since 1999, but was only using Virtual Weather Station software at the time - and it didn't keep track of the all time high temp. You would have to look at all the old summaries to figure it out if you wanted to go back to 1999.
I wish I could import all of that data into either Weather Display or WXSolution (which makes great summary reports).

General Category / General Discussion / With cold temps like this..

We will start to see glaciers moving over the northeast! How about this cold spell? Single digit lows, with a high temp today of only 15! We have a solid chance of beating my all time lowest recorded temperature on my weather station since I have been recording (since 1999). It would have to drop below 5 degrees, which is possible tonight...
Stay warm!

General Category / General Discussion / Winter is officially here.. Just walk outside!

It certainly has been cold here in Maryland the past few days. Both nights getting down to 12 degrees, and the high temp yesterday was just 24.7 degrees. Now if we could just have a nice nor-easter move up the coast, we could get some serious snow... I can only hope..
For the time being, it seems the weather pattern is taking the storms west of Maryland, keeping us on the warm side of things. The lake effect snows are certainly impressive, for those that live in those areas.
I hope this winter is a big snow producer for Maryland!

I am already excited about this winter season. I can't remember the last time we had an accumulating snow BEFORE Thanksgiving. The cold weather and blowing snow yesterday while driving home from work was amazing!
If you have some pictures from the storm, feel free to post them - or add them to the gallery.

I was unaware that the registration to the BBS was not working due to the captcha graphic image being broken. Thanks fotr John for pointing that out. Things should work now - and i Have upgraded the entire system to the latest version. All the mods have been re-installed and upgraded.
Hopefully we will start to see some activity on here now that things are fixed.
Thanks!

General Category / Storm Discussion / How about those T-Storms today?!?!

Wow, what an exciting light show we had today, complete with dime sized hail! The first of several thunderstorms that passed through the Bel Air area today was a huge one. There was cloud rotation in this particular storm and we had dime sized hail bouncing all over the place. The lightning was intense, and so was the rain. Not too much wind to speak of at my location, however.
I will post another message with pictures of the hail from this storm.

General Category / Storm Discussion / Record rain!

In case you have been following this evening's intense rain here in Maryland, we broke my weather station's all time record for most rain in 1 hour. 2.97 inches of rain fell in one hour. It also was raining .39 inches of rain PER MINUTE! We have major heavy storms lined up the I-95 section and they are not moving very much. The cold front is a slow mover and we are in for some major rain tonight. Will see what the total brings in the AM.
